Reiki (ray-key)

Reiki Session

Reiki is a relaxing energy healing method that uses a gentle hands on technique.

Regular Reiki treatments can help enhance your ability to respond to stress and serve as a form of preventive care.

In Japanese, rei, means “universal,” and ki refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things.

 FAQs

  • You’ll lie on your back on a comfy massage table fully clothed and the practitioner does a series of hand positions over the body or gently lays hands on the body. There is no specific order to the locations where the practitioner’s hands are placed. If you prefer to have no touch during the session, simply specify that before the session begins.

I take a few minutes prior to each session - especially with a new client, to explain what to expect during your session and to answer any questions.

  • All you need to do is get comfortable, close your eyes, and take some deep breaths to settle in and relax. You may change positions during the session if you need to get more comfortable.

  • Everyone feels something different during sessions, and you may have a different experience each time. Some common experiences are feeling heat from the practitioner’s hands, feeling tingles, overall warmth, or feeling lighter on the table. Or you may feel nothing but that doesn't mean it’s not working. People feel very relaxed during and after the session. Sometimes they even fall asleep! When the session is done, people generally express feeling peaceful and rejuvenated.

  • As a Reiki practitioner, I’m trained to direct Reiki - universal life force energy. This energy doesn’t come from me - it’s like I’m a cable and energy is the TV show. I just make the connection! When you have a Reiki session, you receive universal life force energy directed to where I place my hands.

Universal life force energy is within every living thing and permeates the universe. By directing that energy, it can help balance our own energy and facilitate healing via deep relaxation.

  • A Reiki session can be any length of time. I offer 70-minute sessions which include 60 minutes of Reiki and time to accommodate any questions or discussions we may have before and after the session. Talking about your experience is not a requirement of the session but oftentimes people find it adds to their experience.

  • You can email me to schedule a time. Please also feel free to call and leave a message. I’ll do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.

  • My Reiki space is located in West Bethel, Maine only 5 minutes from in-town Bethel and 10 minutes from Sunday River. The address is 21 Flat Road, Unit 2, Bethel, Maine 04217.

  • A 70-minute session is $90 payable by cash or Venmo.

Your first session will include an intake where you’ll fill out a brief form and we’ll discuss your goals. This first session is 90 minutes and is $120.

You can also opt to add aromatherapy for an additional $15 to any session. This adds about 5-10 minutes to your session.

You may also opt to purchase a package if you would like regular sessions. A 4-session package is $340 and the package must be used within 4 weeks of purchase. This may be used after the first intake session.

  • I can offer in-home Reiki if you have a couch, chair, or table that’s comfortable for you to receive the session. Reiki can be done successfully so long as you’re comfortable - no special tables needed! An in-home, one-hour session is $125.

  • Yes, many hospitals incorporate Reiki for their patients. For example, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard teaching hospital in Boston, MA, has a Reiki program for patients.

Please note that Reiki is not intended to replace treatment from a medical doctor or psychologist.

  • Reiki isn’t associated with a particular religion. It is based on universal force energy which is referenced across many spiritual practices and cultures and is something we’re starting to be able to measure scientifically.

Research is starting to uncover subtle effects in our biomagnetic fields. In yoga, this energy is called prana. It’s called chi in Chinese and Ki in Japanese. In Judaism and Christianity, we may understand it as spirit. Many religions have similar “laying on of hands” practices that resemble Reiki.

You do not need to identify as spiritual, follow a particular religion or even believe in universal life force energy to benefit from Reiki because it will do what it does no matter what label you put on it.

“Reiki has become a “go to” therapy to help patients overcome anxiety, physical pain, sleeplessness, and all kinds of stresses.”
